Biography

Kathy Beliveau loves nature, writing, music, yoga and swimming in the sea! She was raised in Lantzville, a small, seaside community on Vancouver Island and has traveled extensively. Her journeys, including sailing from Norway to Brazil, added layers of insight and reverence to her already adventurous nature. Kathy’s greatest joys are her children. She has a wonderful stepson and three amazing daughters.

Kathy’s interest in yoga has grown over the years. She has studied Children’s Yoga and is a Certified Yoga Instructor. As well, Kathy writes for children and adults and has been recognized in contests and literary magazines. Her stories entertain primary grades and preschools and are used by Storybook Theatres and for special needs programs.

Kathy’s experience as a mother, a yoga instructor, a preschool teacher and education assistant, has made her aware of a ‘disconnect’ between society and nature.  Her purpose and passion is to inspire children and adults through yoga and writing. Her light and playful style connects kids with nature and people to the planet.

Kathy is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) Canscaip (Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers) and CWILL (Children’s Writers and Illustrators of B.C.) She lives in her hometown, close to nature and the sea.

Teacher’s Guide

(This extensive resource is available as a free download at either the author’s website, www.kathybeliveau.ca or through her publishers website, http://www.simplyreadbooks.com/catalog.php?is_resource=yes)

Play-based learning and self-regulation are both current topics in education today. The joy of learning and the ability to recognize and care for our own needs and the needs of others are powerful tools at any age. This guide builds on The Yoga Game, inspiring mindfulness, providing details of how to do each pose and presenting numerous variations to use while playing/learning yoga. The guide illustrates how one yoga pose can create calm while another can stimulate. One encourages inner reflection, while another allows self-expression. Yoga can be used to introduce topics and lessons, to support smooth transitions and to create meaningful closure. Incorporating the suggestions and activities into a number of subjects, this guide demonstrates how yoga can be integrated into different curriculums.
