Biography

Ann Donahue was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and now resides on the beautiful island of Salt Spring, BC in Canada. After a long enjoyable career in education, she now writes for children about her favorite subject: coral reefs. A passionate underwater photographer, Ann travels the world to dive and likes to visit exotic locations with rich marine biodiversity. She enjoys sharing photos and stories about her underwater adventures especially with children making her a popular speaker with school groups. Through her presentations, given either in French or English, she hopes to spark in children a sense of adventure and of curiosity about the natural world.

Colours of Coral Reefs/ Rays and Sharks

Colours of Coral Reefs  for primary grades: (one hour)

Follow Ann on a dive and discover fascinating animals of various colours during an interactive photo/video slide show. A craft activity involving cuttting,  gluing and colouring will wrap up the session.

Rays and Sharks for junior/intermediate grades and high school: ( 90 minutes)

Introduction to 5 species of rays and 15 species of sharks via a slide show presentation including a discussion of their survival challenges. The emphasis will be on the characteristics of each of the species and their survival mechanisms.  A cooperative review activity involving writing will close up the session.

Recommended levels: Senior kindergarten, Primary (1-3), Junior (4-6), Intermediate (7-8), High school (9-12)

Fees: $150 per presentation/ $250 for 2 presentations at a same venue
