Born in Edmonton, Maureen was raised in Edmonton and Calgary. She loved writing as a child, but had nothing to say, so she went on to other things, first a Bachelor’s degree in History, then a Masters degree in Environmental Design (Environmental Science), both from the University of Calgary. She worked as a public involvement consultant and trained as a mediator until she discovered  she liked writing even better. She has a post-graduate Certificate of Creative Writing from Humber College. Maureen lives in Calgary with her husband and younger daughter.

Maureen Bush Author Presentation

I&;ll talk about being a writer and introduce my stories, including a discussion of where the ideas came from, and short readings. Then we&;ll play with the idea of where stories come from, by creating a story together. I always leave time for questions, and will answer almost anything. If the kids are have read one of my books, we can focus more closely on that book, including any questions they have about the story.

One hour, 75 kids maximum.

Recommended levels: Primary (1-3), Junior (4-6), Intermediate (7-8)

Fees: $250

Writing Workshop

I&;ll design the workshop for the specific ages and needs of the kids. I have worked with kids who love to write, reluctant readers and writers, and kids with learning disabilities. I&;m often asked to help inspire the kids to write, and so we create a wild story together and then they&;ll work individually or in smaller groups on their own stories. The specifics depend on the age and abilities of the kids.

Two hours, 30 kids maximum.

Presentation type: Workshop

Recommended levels: Primary (1-3), Junior (4-6), Intermediate (7-8), High school (9-12)

Fees: $400
