Biography

Mireille Messier is a Montreal-born, Ottawa-raised and now Toronto-based children’s writer with a background in broadcasting and theatre. Her award-winning books include junior fiction and non-fiction, and picture books, most of them published in French but a few in English, Arabic and Chinese.

Mireille is also a freelance copywriter and translator for a number of children’s television programs, websites and magazines.

Mireille gives an average of one hundred author presentations a year in French, English and French immersion schools across Canada.

Comment faire déclic!

Mireille introduces herself and her books. She gives an overview of the different types of writing she does and familiarizes the participants with the terminology surrounding book genres and various book-related careers in both French and English. She reads an excerpt from her novel Déclic à Toronto and then leads a fun interactive workshop about different techniques to find original story ideas prompted by photographs and objects. This is followed by a Q&A period. Students are asked to read at least three chapters of Déclic à Toronto in class and prepare a pertinent question for the Q&A prior to the visit.

Une histoire avec Mireille Messier

Mireille introduces herself and her books. She gives a quick overview of the different types of writing she does. She then presents one of her picture books (The Branch/Ma branche préférée, Charlotte series, Luca/Night Flight or Fatima) in her special giant book accompanied by puppet version of her picture book character. If time permits, this is followed by an activity (hat-themed for Charlotte or clementine peeling demonstration for Fatima) and a Q&A period. Note: It is also possible to choose another one of my picture books for the presentation. Please contact me for more information.

Mireille will present herself and familiarize the children with the vocabulary used in her picture book Quel fouillis! (tool-theme) with a fun activity. She will then read her picture book. If time permits this is followed by a song and a Q&A period.

Jonglons avec les lettres! with Mireille Messier

Anagrams are so much fun that I created an entire story with them! Mireille presents her picture book «Le voilier d'Olivier - une aventure en anagrammes» and shows the participants how anagrams works. Then, students are prompted to create their own anagram stories.
