Biography

Sally Meadows is an author, two-time national award nominated singer/songwriter, speaker, former educator, and former children's entertainer who lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Sally has released two children's picture books in 2015: The Two Trees, about a child on the autism spectrum, and Beneath That Star, about a young girl who longs to be a shepherd. Sally is also a contributor to the latest volume (Hot Apple Cider With Cinnamon; 2015) in the Canadian bestselling series and the #1 bestselling book Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas in Canada (2014). Sally's two CDs, Red & White (2013) and Turn the Page (2012) both contain songs shortlisted for The Word Awards, Canada's largest and most prestigious awards for those writing from a Christian perspective.  Sally has worked with children and youth since 1997, through her science "edu-tainment" business Nuts About Science!; as a teacher; and as a university outreach educator. She has also conducted or facilitated writing, science, paper crafting, and entrepreneurship workshops for gifted elementary students. Sally writes in a range of topics reflecting her diverse interests, from inspirational pieces to parenting a special needs child to crafts to kid's science activities. Sally has three professional university degrees (BSc, MSc, and BEd) and has won a number of academic awards.

The Two Trees: Reading, Discussion, and Hands-0n Activities

This 50-60 minute presentation with target audience grades K-4 starts with a reading (~8 minutes) of my children's picture book The Two Trees and is followed by a grade-level-appropriate Q & A session (~10 minutes) touching on a wide range of topics including autism, bullying, being a good friend, tree conservation, dinosaurs, and rocks and minerals. Then the students are invited to cycle through a number of stations (~40 minutes) that include hands-on activities such as examining real rock, mineral, and fossil samples, building a giant 3-D dinosaur skeleton, testing their curriculum-related science knowledge, tree- and dinosaur-themed crafts, and much more!  Best for audiences numbering around 50-60, but can accommodate audiences up 100 children, including multiple grades, in a large space such as a gym.

Fees: $250 per 50-60 minute presentation plus travel fees

This 30-40 minute presentation with target audience grades K-4 includes a reading of Beneath That Star, a brief Q & A session, and a Christmas carol sing-along or themed crafts.
