Tania lives in Toronto with her husband and son, Finch. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1997 and has been a freelance illustrator for 20 years. Tania has done work for clients such as Today's Parent magazine, Chirp, Holt Renfrew, The National Post and many others. She is currently celebrating the release of Starring Shapes, her Author/Illustrator debut, and of the third book in the Willow series, Willow's Smile. In another life, Tania might like to be a fabric designer, a librarian or even a small-town cafe owner. She likes coffee and tea, walks, reading books, daydreaming and cooking up delicious things.
I love to show students the secrets to simple drawing! You can give anything a face ( such as shapes, as in my book Starring Shapes ), and with a simple line change, a face can look happy, sad, angry or exited.
Presentations generally last 45-60 minutes and include a reading of the chosen storybook, in this case Starring Shapes. A brief description of the process of creation for a picture book, from early roughs to final images is covered and a drawing demonstration follows. Students are asked to choose different emotions and will be shown how to simply portray that. They then get to try it themselves, as well as colour in an activity page I provide. A question and answer period is always encouraged at the end.
